An Interview with Zak Hussain

As one of #TeamZamp‘s youngest drivers, Zak Hussain has risen through the ranks over the last few seasons and it has been a delight to watch and support him. We recently caught up with him to chat about his career so far and what he hopes to achieve in the years ahead.

Q: How did you get into karting? What first attracted you?

A: My dad is a fan of F1, so I grew up watching F1 with him. My first taste of karting was on holiday to Dubai in 2017, absolutely loved it! The speed felt awesome. When I got back in the UK my parents took me to Teamsport and after just a few sessions I was invited to take part in UK National Kartchamps representing Teamsport North London. I finished 3rd in the UK after only being in a kart a few sessions. I said to my parents I want to race outdoors and I started karting at Rye House corporate, and quickly progressed into owner kart racing.

Q: Would you say you faced any particular barriers or issues when coming into the sport?

A: It is difficult finding trustworthy people to gain information about stepping into the world of owner karting, as there’s so much to learn. Also, the main barrier is the cost, everything is so costly and if you want to be at the front you have to have deep pockets. I’ve achieved everything so far on a very tight budget as its difficult finding sponsors to back you.

Q: What advice would you give to another young person trying to enter or progress in karting?

A: Do your homework, visit tracks on race days and speak to parents and teams to gain as much information as possible.

Q: What are your future plans/goals within karting/motorsport?

A: My ultimate goal is F1 or single seater racing, but I’m also interested in GT racing.

Q: What are you most excited about when it comes to the future of motorsport (either for yourself or for the sport in general)?

A: Exciting new technologies been developed all the time to make things more efficient and environmentally friendly, I can see the future being electric ⚡️

Q: What is your favourite thing about your Zamp Helmet?

A: Love the colours, design, comfort and quality. Most importantly it’s great value for money.
